After all, a home massage chair such as this is quite a significant investment.

About the Company Relaxonchair

It is a California-based company and brand that operates from Anaheim.  It was set up by a team that wanted to create a lineup of affordable massage chairs.

They aim to efficiently deliver their product to the customers without having to rely on third-party retailers or online portals to do the job for them.

FDA Registered In USA

Chairs have been certified by the FDA as registered medical devices and are progressively improved upon for quality control.

The brand prioritizes customer satisfaction as a measure of success and seeks to perfect its products based on consumer reports and customer reviews.

They claim to thoroughly test their chairs before dispatching them on the market and offer ok customer service for any issues you may encounter.

About the Relaxonchair MK-IV Review

The Relaxon massage chairs are affordable than most other brands of the same products.

Although these provide you a good experience, we noticed that they do fall short by a few notches as far as features are concerned.

To understand this better, let’s take a quick look at the standout features of these chairs.

The brand offers two main models namely, the MK-II Plus and an upgraded version which is the MK-IV Zero Gravity Chair.

RelaxOnChair MK IV massage chair

In this particular guide, we have brought you an extensive review of the MK-IV ZG massage chair so that you get to know about the products better.

Zero Gravity Setting- In the zero-gravity position, your knees remain elevated slightly higher than your heart, putting the entire body over the back.

The rollers can deliver a deep tissue massage to the body in this position.

This shiatsu massage chair offers 3 seating positions for the ZG feature.

Heat Settings- The model provides heating in the lumbar region that extends slightly up to the mid-back.

It doesn’t have heat settings or controls to manage the heat intensity.

Airbags- The chairs have a total of 28 airbags (8 for the arms and hands and 20 for the legs and feet) that provide compression air massages by inflating and deflating to the limbs.

However, apart from the hands and legs, this model does not have airbags or cells for the shoulders, back, hips, or neck.

Preset and Auto Massages- The MK-IV comes with 5 preset massage features for you.

Five ProgramsThis includes massage techniques like Shiatsu, Kneading, Tapping, Knocking and Combination Kneading, and Tapping.

However, the air pressure intensities are not customizable, and the rollers are only adjustable while using tapping, or knocking techniques.

The chairs also bring 5 auto massage programs namely, Relax, Relief, Recovery, Neck, and Shoulder, Back and Waist.

Extended S-Track- This massage chair comprises an extended S-track mechanism that is supposed to be longer than the conventional S-track in massage chairs, if not as long as the L-tracks.

Full Body Scan- This model comes with a full-body scan technology that locates all the afflicted areas of the body and directs the massage mechanisms towards them.

Benefits of Relaxonchair

The model provides a considerable amount of benefits. Each of its features contributes to the overall relaxing experience.

Zero Gravity PositionThe zero-gravity feature puts the entire body to rest and brings in the total body weight into play. It improves blood circulation in every part of the body and boosts up lung capacity.

It also helps in treating insomnia and other sleep-related issues. The heating and massage rollers pair up together to deliver deep tissue and complete body shiatsu massages.

This helps to relieve chronic aches in the back and especially in the lower back region.  The heat taps the energy into the tissues and muscles and revitalizes the body and senses.

The pre-set and automatic massages combine to give you an ultimate massage experience.  These techniques not only massage your limbs, but help open up blocked veins, blood vessels, and pressurized muscles.

Deep Massage And HeatThe massage chair helps deliver compression air massages to your arms, forearms, hands, and legs.  This helps activates and massages the pressure points located throughout these regions.

This instantly de-stresses the entire body and releases muscle tension.  This greatly facilitates the blood to flow freely in the clogged-up regions and repairs worn-out tissues. The Full Body Scan helps to detect every complicated area and pressure spot in the body and enables the rollers to work on these for superior relaxation.

Significant Drawbacks

We did mention before that despite having a few attractive features; the MK-IV does fall short in its attributes.

It fails to achieve maximum consumer satisfaction than some of the models that we think have it all sorted.

  1. No Separate Foot Rollers or Massagers

The Relaxonchair MK-IV does not include any foot roller or massager which is one of the most vital features that is necessary for a complete massage experience.

The model just has airbags for the legs and feet that give you a regular air compression leg massage.

This does not really do much for the soles of your feet or the pressure points on your toes.

  1. Has an S-Track Massage System

This model consists of an extended S-track system that the brand claims to be longer than the conventional S-tracks.

S-Track SystemAlthough the track in this massage chair maybe a tad bit more efficient in reaching down to the farthest levels of your lower back, it doesn’t really provide much out of the ordinary.

So, we wonder if the word “extended” is a marketing tactic to sell off a regular S-track massage chair.

But, in all respects, we would much prefer a good L-track that goes down to the very glutes and thighs to massage those areas.

  1. Limited Heating Area

Limited Heating Area

The company claims to put in a heating system in this model that affects the mid-section of the back.

But when we tried the feature, we found that the heating is MOSTLY limited to the lumbar portion with maybe a marginal effect on the surrounding areas.

Additionally, this model does not have any heating facility for the seat, legs or anywhere else for the body.

  1. No Vibration Feature for the Seat or Head Massages.

The seat vibration feature is a sought-after characteristic in a massage chair that provides the benefit of relieving lower body joint pains and greatly calms the body.

We greatly missed this feature in this model which doesn’t even provide a simple heat setting for the seat.

Additionally, this model neither has a head massager nor, any system to massage your shoulders.

Below is another popular model from the same brand: RELAXONCHAIR [MK-II PLUS] Full Body Zero Gravity Massage Chair with Built-in Heat and Air Massage System. It features BUTTLOCK L-TRACKING MASSAGE System, DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE & FULL BODY STRETCHING: SYSTEM, LOWER BACK HEATING.

A Better Alternative to Relaxonchair Massage Chair?

Since we weren’t entirely satisfied with the overall performance of this model, we decided to provide you with a better alternative.

Our pick would be the Kahuna LM6800 Massage Recliner which we think does the job twice as well.

About Relaxonchair MK-VIII

The Relaxonchair MK-VIII convertible is another one-piece steel frame that I’ve been test-driving for some time. It has a larger 6.5 feet long (measuring it from the front corner to the back is about 6.3 feet) and 7.9 inches wide at its widest point. The cargo storage compartment has no knee braces or straps, so you’ll need a lift for the seats and the compartment, and have to use two “Liftsticks” for storage. The relief and Classic models have “Auto-Lock” and “Self-Locking” variants with one fixed cargo handle and one swiveling cargo handle, and they also have a “Lift-a-thon” feature where you can turn your arms upside down to pick up cargo.

The front of the seat is slightly higher than the back of the seat, so when you raise the front, the back of the seat will slide backward. The back cushions are about 2.5 inches thick and have 4 layers of padding. The comfy model has a good side and back angle. I found it easy to put on and adjust. On the comfy model, the headrest tapers from being slightly soft on top, to the firm on the sides and back. The comfy model also has a back adjustment strap at the headrest. The lift-a-thon is available only on the comfy model, with the Auto-Lock, built-in heating, and Self-Lock versions.

Massage Chair Refurbished

The Robinson Medical Furniture ARC-300 with remote control is a well-made and solid machine that’s perfect for commuters who appreciate a heavy, durable, and low-maintenance chair. The ARC-300 comes with a built-in recline and a ton of storage, as well as a footrest. It’s perfect for road warriors who need a well-designed, ergonomic chair that can easily be folded away when not in use.

Why Buy This Model?

The Kahuna LM6800 Massage Recliner does not only give you a wide range of attractive features, but it also gives you better user-friendly features that you will get by buying the this model.

It doesn’t exceed much in what you pay for the MK-IV model but gives you a better massage experience. Kahuna FDAAdditionally, the Kahuna model has a much better material quality than the MK-IV and has a stronger built and design.

It also comes with proper warranty documents and users’ manual instructions for assembly at the time of purchase. It is a space-efficient model and has been certified as a medical device by the FDA. We do think that this massage recliner is overall a better alternative than the Relaxonchair MK-IV massage chair and I highly recommend it.

Where to Buy?

The best place to buy the Relaxonchair MK-IV massage chair is on its official website page (they also offer a white glove delivery option ) that lists the price along with the images and model features and special offers.  But, I honestly believe Kahuna would be an overall better choice.

Also, please take notice that as of 2020, Amazon offers the best price deal for the Kahuna LM6800 Massage Recliner than eBay or any other online shopping portal.  And as a bonus, you also get the Amazon seal of warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Years Does a Massage Chair Last?

The lifespan of a massage chair can vary depending on several factors. On average, a well-maintained massage chair can last for approximately 5 to 10 years. However, it is important to note that this estimate is not absolute, as the durability of a massage chair also relies on usage frequency and quality, as well as the manufacturer’s construction and materials. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating mechanical parts, can help prolong the chair’s lifespan. Additionally, choosing a reputable brand known for producing high-quality massage chairs may contribute to a longer-lasting investment. Ultimately, proper care and maintenance play a vital role in maximizing the longevity of a massage chair.

What are the Disadvantages of a Massage Chair?

While massage chairs offer numerous benefits, they also come with a few disadvantages to consider. Firstly, cost can be a significant drawback, as high-quality massage chairs tend to be expensive. Furthermore, their large size and weight may pose a challenge in terms of space and mobility, making them less suitable for smaller living areas. Additionally, massage chairs, especially those with intense massage functions, may not be suitable for everyone, particularly individuals with certain medical conditions such as blood clotting disorders or certain types of cancer. Moreover, some users may find the intensity of certain massage techniques uncomfortable or even painful. It’s also important to note that massage chairs cannot replace the personalized touch of a human massage therapist, as they lack the ability to adapt to individual needs and preferences. Lastly, despite advancements in design and technology, some massage chairs may still have limitations in targeting specific areas of the body, which may not fully address every individual’s specific pain or tension points.

What Happens if You Sit in a Massage Chair for Too Long?

If you sit in a massage chair for an extended period, there are a few potential consequences to be aware of. Prolonged use of a massage chair can lead to muscle soreness and discomfort. The repetitive and intense motions of the massage mechanisms can cause muscle fatigue and strain, similar to overexertion during physical exercise. Additionally, excessive use of a massage chair can result in skin irritation or pressure sores, especially if the user remains in the same position for an extended time. It is important to note that individuals with certain medical conditions, such as circulatory disorders or blood clotting issues, may be more susceptible to adverse effects from prolonged use. Furthermore, excessive reliance on a massage chair can potentially lead to decreased muscle strength and flexibility over time, as the body becomes reliant on the chair for muscle stimulation rather than engaging in physical activity. Therefore, it is recommended to use a massage chair in moderation, following the manufacturer’s guidelines and listening to one’s body for any signs of discomfort or strain.

What’s the Difference Between 2D and 3D Massage Chair?

The key difference between 2D and 3D massage chairs lies in their massage mechanism’s ability to adjust the intensity and depth of the massage strokes, providing distinct experiences and therapeutic benefits.

2D Massage Chairs:

  1. Two-Dimensional Massage: 2D massage chairs use a two-dimensional massage mechanism that primarily operates in two dimensions—horizontal (left to right) and vertical (up and down). This means they can move along the back and forth axis and change the width of the massage rollers.
  2. Intensity Control: In a 2D massage chair, you can typically adjust the intensity of the massage by controlling the speed and pressure of the rollers. This allows you to customize the massage to your preferences.
  3. Limited Depth: While you can control the intensity, 2D massage chairs have a fixed depth of massage. The rollers can’t extend far from the chair’s backrest, limiting their ability to reach deeper muscle layers effectively.
  4. Relaxation and Stress Relief: 2D massage chairs are suitable for general relaxation, stress relief, and muscle tension reduction. They offer a pleasant and soothing massage experience.

3D Massage Chairs:

  1. Three-Dimensional Massage: 3D massage chairs use a three-dimensional massage mechanism that adds an additional dimension to the massage—depth adjustment. In addition to horizontal and vertical movements, the rollers can extend or retract to reach different layers of muscles.
  2. Intense Depth Control: One of the primary advantages of 3D massage chairs is their ability to control the depth of the massage. You can increase or decrease the protrusion of the massage rollers, allowing for a more customizable and targeted massage experience.
  3. Deeper Tissue Relief: 3D massage chairs are well-suited for individuals seeking deeper tissue relief and therapeutic benefits. They can effectively target knots and tension in deeper muscle layers.
  4. Muscle Recovery and Pain Relief: Due to their ability to provide a more intense and penetrating massage, 3D massage chairs are often recommended for muscle recovery, pain relief, and addressing specific muscular issues.

In summary, the primary distinction between 2D and 3D massage chairs is the depth control of the massage mechanism. 2D chairs offer a two-dimensional massage experience with intensity adjustment, suitable for general relaxation. In contrast, 3D chairs provide a three-dimensional massage with the added dimension of depth control, making them ideal for individuals seeking deeper tissue relief, muscle recovery, and targeted pain relief. When choosing between the two, consider your specific massage needs and preferences to select the chair that best suits your goals.

Are Shiatsu Massage Chairs Good For You?

Shiatsu massage chairs can offer various health benefits for many individuals, but their suitability ultimately depends on individual needs and circumstances.

Shiatsu massage is a traditional Japanese technique that involves applying pressure to specific points on the body to relieve tension, promote relaxation, and stimulate energy flow. Shiatsu massage chairs aim to replicate these therapeutic effects through mechanical means, utilizing rollers, airbags, and other features to target acupressure points along the body’s meridians.

For those seeking relief from muscle tension, stress, or discomfort, Shiatsu massage chairs can provide a convenient and effective solution. The targeted pressure applied by the chair’s mechanisms can help alleviate knots and tightness in muscles, promoting relaxation and reducing overall stress levels. Additionally, the rhythmic movements of the massage can stimulate circulation, which may contribute to improved muscle recovery and overall well-being.

Furthermore, Shiatsu massage chairs offer customizable settings and intensity levels, allowing users to tailor their massage experience to their preferences and comfort levels. This versatility makes them suitable for a wide range of individuals, regardless of age or physical condition.

However, it’s essential to consider potential limitations and precautions when using Shiatsu massage chairs. Individuals with certain medical conditions, such as severe osteoporosis, fractures, or circulatory disorders, should exercise caution and consult with a healthcare provider before using the chair. Additionally, pregnant women should seek guidance from their obstetrician before using Shiatsu massage chairs, as certain pressure points may stimulate uterine contractions.

Moreover, while Shiatsu massage chairs can offer relief from muscle tension and stress, they should not replace professional medical care or treatment for underlying health issues. It’s essential to maintain a holistic approach to health and wellness, incorporating massage therapy as part of a comprehensive self-care routine that includes proper nutrition, exercise, and regular medical check-ups.

In summary, Shiatsu massage chairs can be beneficial for many individuals, providing relief from muscle tension, stress, and discomfort. However, it’s crucial to use them responsibly and in conjunction with other health-promoting practices to maximize their effectiveness and ensure overall well-being.
